Wards in the  Sutherland Shire Council 

Sutherland Shire Council is made up of five Wards – A, B, C, D and E. Each Ward is represented by three Councillors.

B Ward covers the central area of the Shire. It stretches from Caringbah South and Lilli Pilli in the East to Kirrawee in the West and is bordered by Port Hacking Rd, the Boulevarde and Princes Highway to the north and the beautiful Port Hacking River to the South.

B Ward is roughly 14 square kilometres in size and in 2020 had an estimated population of 46,976 residents.

With over 30 parks and playgrounds in B Ward there is a playground for everyone! Our playgrounds range from small local playgrounds for a quick turn on the swings, to larger regional parks which provide more facilities and equipment for kids to play all day.

Sporting Facilities 

Shire residents value a healthy and active lifestyle. Council is committed to supporting this and has over 115 playing fields, 3 athletics tracks, 54 tennis courts and 99 netball courts for use by clubs, residents, schools and community groups.

In B Ward we are lucky to have some of the best facilities in the Shire, including:
 

  • Glenn McGrath Oval, Caringbah

  • Caringbah Leisure Centre

  • Seymour Shaw Football Stadium

  • Seymour Shaw Reserve (with facilities for Football, Netball and Tennis)

We are fortunate to be the home of the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre.

Set amongst landscaped gardens, this major public gallery includes a comprehensive arts centre, café, theatrette and community gallery. A jewel in Council’s arts and culture crown, Hazelhurst hosts award-winning exhibitions, community events and showcases fantastic local artists.

B Ward is also the beating heart of the Shire’s night life and is home to some of the best bars and nightspots including:

  • the famous Vinyl Room in Gymea (for those who love to boogie to the classics)

  • Carmens at Miranda Hotel

  • Caringbah Hotel

  • Gymea Hotel

  • Gymea Tradies
     

As well as being right across the road from Huxleys, Highfields and Tradies in Caringbah, as well as The Prince in Kirrawee.
